Module One Reflection

In week one of our technology course, I have learned many things that can be used in the building of the curriculum of my music classes as it relates to technology. Coming into this class, I did not know what to expect, as I am not a huge tech person. My use of technology is limited to social media apps on my phone and a few online musical programs which are relatively easy to navigate. In meeting with our professor, I felt even the more comfortable with the things I could anticipate learning as we moved forward. One of my most favorite take away from the previous week was the introduction of the program “Incredibox.” Admittedly, I was not looking forward to using it, because I was not sure what to expect or how tight my skill set had to be. It turns out, the program was a big hit with me. I loved it!! I loved it so much that the next morning after using the program, I introduced it to my middle school elective class, consisting of grades 5-7. Just as expected, the kids loved it!! They were anxious to record and to see what different sounds and rhythms they could create. Also, I’m using the program as part of our 2nd-grade music project. Younger grades are in charge of setting up some sort of cheer or song to present to students testing for the EOG. Students will use Incredibox to create some kind of instrumental to go with their songs and cheers for older students. Also, I was pushed out of my comfort zone as it relates to using Twitter. I would rarely tweet and kept what I did tweet protected. As a result of having to tweet for the class and tweets being visible, I had to learn to really utilize Twitter and to become more involved with our learning communities at UFL. All things considered, I am looking forward but am a little nervous about all the class will entail, but I am up for the challenge!
